The Human Resource Management is related to assessment of manpower requirements in the organization, providing human resources recruiting people with proper qualifications, technical skills, positive attitude and right mind set. Task of HR manager is not limited to hiring of people but involves balancing act on its part in the growth of the business of the organization and its human capital by ensuring healthy working environment for the job satisfaction among the employees and improved productivity. Thus, responsibilities of HR manager further extend to determine employees’ salary structure, perquisites and welfare. This function of HR manager becomes important to retain the talented people in the organization. Besides attracting talented people, organizing orientation and training programs and developing appropriate performance appraisal system for career progression of the employees are some other important tasks of the HR manager.

Qualifications and skills required for a career in HRM

One has to do an undergraduate course in any discipline and thereafter attain a postgraduate qualification in Human Resource / Personnel Management. Although business oriented courses like BBA and BBM are available, MBA degree or post graduate diploma in management (PGDM) with additional qualifications like a degree or diploma in law, social sciences, personal management, industrial psychology, labor relations etc. provides preferential edge over undergraduate degree in business administration. Other than qualifications, one should have some good qualities and personality traits to become a successful HR manager. The HR professional should be a good human being with leadership attributes like being a good listener, decision maker and a good judge of competencies and personalities besides possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
