How to use hubpages URL Trackers or referrals?

As a new hubber, I always underestimated role of URL trackers. However, after two years I can authoritatively say that this small widget do wonders. Can you believe that these trackers attracted 148000 visitors to my different hubs? These trackers brought 97 new hubbers to Hubpages and these hubbers created 190 hubs. These 190 hubs attracted 9,48,600 visitors to hubpages. I really underestimated these tiny creatures. Have a look at right sidebar to see the snapshot.

Other than using the affiliate programs of Google Adsense, eBay and Amazon, there is another way to generate revenue through HubPages. It's HubPages Affiliate Program. Whatever hubpage views are generated through your efforts (e-mail, posting in forums, links etc.), a share of revenue goes to your account. Not only traffic but signup to hubpages using your links generate revenue for you. There are different ways to earn money using URL trackers.

How to create trackers?

We will discuss how to insert URL trackers later; first let us know how to create trackers. Everything is discussed by hubpages about it but not so easy to do. Use of URL trackers is important for generating revenue. You can create several URL trackers just by clicking create tracker. Since its difficult to remember "default tracker", it is wise to create simple 2-3 words trackers. You can use your initials or your close friend or relative's initials to remember. For tracking performance of your links at different sites or different pages, you should use different trackers for different web links. In this way you can know which link is generating more revenue to you.

How to insert referral trackers?

As you invite your friends to hubpages using e-mail, you have to place a link in your mail. What you will do for that? You will place a URL address of your hubpage/hub or someone hub. OK. Its fine but how hubpages will know who have invited them to hubpages. To help hubpages to identify you, you have to put either your default tracker or other trackers you have created. If you failed to understand how to insert your URL tracker in the URL address even after reading help page at hubpages, I'll clarify this. Open a hub and copy its address from address bar of your Internet browser. You have to use this address as URL address whenever you wish to place a link. For example, URL of one my hubs is: http://hubpages.com/hub/earnmoneywithblogs; I'll paste this URL in my e-mails to my friends. But this address will just bring my friends to my hub but it will not generate any revenue for me as hubpages will not know who brought the visitor to the hub in question. For this you have to insert URL tracker in the URL address like this: http://hubpages.com/_vvv/hub/earnmoneywithblogs; you may notice _vvv inserted before hub in the URL address above. Now if your friend visits the hub or sign up as a new hubber, you will get some share of revenue generation. Even hubview by your friend will generate revenue for you. Other way to use URL tracker is to click " Link to this page" or e-mail this page. Even you may use different trackers in your different hubs whenever you interlink your other hubs. Wherever you place a link to your hubpage or someone else's hub, you always should insert your URL tracker. In simple words if you wrote a blog at Blogger.com and placed link to any of your hub and in response to that link someone visits your hub by clicking on that link you will not share any revenue until and unless you insert your URL tracker in that link (Hub's URL). Likewise, if you refer or recommend for signup, without your URL tracker, you will not get credit for that sign up.

How to know who has signed up using your referral tracker?

Hubpages has made a change in use of referral trackers from April 16, 2008. I started a thread in the hubpage forum “There is no way to help downline because one does not know who has signed up under you.However, it...” 4 weeks ago. Most of the hubbers participated in the discussion and supported my views that there must be some provision to know who has signed under you so that you may help new hubbers to understand the hubtivity. I am happy to learn that HP staff has now made this change in URL tracker use and now hubbers may know who has signed under them. It’s a welcome step. One can know about new hubbers signing under him/her by clicking on default referral tracker or created trackers by clicking on the tracker.
